I’m a Registered Nurse Psychotherapist with a passion for growing hope and confidence through meaningful conversations. I received my Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BScN) from McMaster University and I have been practicing in a variety of mental health settings ever since.
I started my career on an in-patient mental health unit. I moved to the emergency department where I provided mental health assessments and counselling. I left the healthcare setting to pursue a mental health role in Public Health for over 10 years. In that role I provided therapy for school age children, teens, their parent/guardians and advocated for the students/families within the school setting and community resources. When the program ended, I then moved to a part-time psychotherapist role working with adults in an outpatient mental health clinic, which I continue to do today and I opened my part-time private practice.
It was these and personal past experiences where I developed a passion for supporting individuals, families and relationships through challenging times in their lives. Whether school, career, parenting, relationships, loss or other turning points, life can be tough - ruminating about perceived past 'failures' or overthinking about the fears of your future can have you questioning, even doubting yourself and keeping you stuck spinning your wheels.
You are not alone and it does not have to be this way!
My life and work experiences have driven my passion to pursue this way of working. It is the feedback and outcomes from those I have worked with that have inspired me to pursue private practice.
I work with you to help you to identify your 'best hopes' from our session. Not sure how to answer that question? That’s okay, that's my role, in helping you to figure it out.
After we both know what you hope to get from our time together, we then engage in conversations that help you identify past resiliency, notice your current signs of strength, progress and coping, no matter what the size and explore details of you moving toward your preferred way of experiencing life. Describing some of the many different possibilities for change that you have already been using and/or are aware of and linking them to what's important to you.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a therapeutic approach that was developed by Steve de Shazer, Insoo Kim Berg, and their colleagues in the 1980’s. SFBT is an evidence-based approach that is effective at helping clients from any background and with various presenting problems. SFBT is a radical approach to helping clients that asks clients to focus their attention on the future they would like to design and create rather than continuing to focus on other problem-related concerns. This language-based approach encourages clinicians to view each client as resourceful and competent, while they co-construct (work with) their clients to move forward into the life they would like to live. SFBT professionals ask detail-oriented questions that get clients thinking in new and more adaptive ways. After engaging in change-oriented conversations many clients report feeling warmly understood and empowered to use their agency and autonomy to make necessary changes in their lives that are in line with their desired outcome for therapy. This respectful and collaborative approach doesn’t further traumatize clients or require them to wade through heartache and pain. Instead, SFBT helps clients expand their vision of who they are and what they are capable of accomplishing. www.thesfu.com Copyright 2023 The Solution Focused Universe
